Frequently Asked Questions
I have no idea how much my project will
cost. How can I get an accurate idea prior to inviting a cabinetmaker
into my home?
It is very important to “do your homework” and familiarize yourself with approximate costs
for your project, prior to obtaining a bid. You want to be as realistic as possible in your
expectations of what you want and what it will cost. Remember, any type of custom cabinetry
project, especially if it is built-in, will increase the value of your homes’ worth.
There are many excellent resources on the World Wide Web. Do a search for “home improvement calculators”.
What is the difference between stain-grade and paint-grade wood?
Choosing stain grade or paint-grade wood is a matter of personal choice as to the finished look of a project.
Generally, paint-grade plywood is of a slightly lower quality than stain-grade wood. There may be minor imperfections
that are not visible after the wood has been painted.
Is choosing paint-grade wood a less expensive option?
No. Generally a project that will be painted goes through more preparation in the painting process than
stain-grade wood in the finishing process. In fact, there are many processes for new painted finish options
that can significantly increase the cost of the project.
What advantages are there to buying a custom-built cabinet from Custom Wood Designs instead of a store bought piece?
